1031 EXCHANGES

Avoid the recognition of capital gains or losses on the disposition of investment property or property held for use in a trade or business by structuring the transaction as a tax-free exchange instead of a sale. The tax-free exchange of property that is being held for investment or productive use in a trade or business can be used to avoid the recognition of capital gains or losses on that property. Although not so limited, 1031 Exchanges are most often utilized when the property involved is real estate.
